OOKO Search

Search Tips Advanced Search Tips Interpret Results

OOKO Search allows you to create specific queries that instruct OOKO to return more precise results. You can use either the Advanced Search form or the free-form query box to find the products you want.

Choosing Keywords

For best results, it's important to choose your keywords wisely. Keep these tips in mind:
  • Try the obvious first. If you're looking for video converter, enter [video converter rather than [converters].
  • Make keywords as specific as possible. [PacMan Tetris BomberMan] gets more relevant results than [old arcade games].
  • Do not use international characters. OOKO Search is currently available only in English.
  • Use words likely to define the product you want. [File explorer] or [Internet browser] gets better results than [explore] or [browse].

Search Queries

By default, OOKO returns products that include at least one of your search terms. So, there is no need to include OR between terms.

OOKO ignores the order in which the terms are typed. But first of all, it searches for the whole query string as if it were a phrase.

Including more terms returns more results, but it affects their sort order. So, to find a product what you need, you may include more terms.

For example, to search for database backup utility, simply type:

Filter Results

OOKO Search enables you to filter your search results by specifying a platform (e.g. Windows, Mac, Unix, etc), license (e.g. Free, Free to try, Demo, etc) and domain. Just use the Filter Panel at the bottom of the results page.

Phrase Searches

Search for complete phrases by enclosing them in quotation marks. Words enclosed in double quotes ("like this") will appear together exactly as you have entered them. Phrase searches are especially useful when searching for known programs.

Automatic Exclusion of Common Words

OOKO ignores common words and characters such as "where" and "how", as well as certain single digits and single letters, because they tend to slow down your search without improving the results.

If a common word is essential to getting the results you want, you can conduct a phrase search, which simply means putting quotation marks around two or more words. Common words in a phrase search (e.g., ["easy to use"]) are included in the search.

For example, to search for Magic Ball 2, use:

Capitalization

OOKO searches are NOT case sensitive (except for some special terms). All letters, regardless of how you type them, will be understood as lower case. For example, searches for [pacmania], [PacMania], and [pAcMaNiA] will all return the same results.

Word Variations (Stemming)

OOKO now uses stemming technology. Thus, when appropriate, it will search not only for your search terms, but also for words that are similar to some or all of those terms. If you search for [arcade games], OOKO will also search for [arcade game], and other related variations of your terms.
